Johnny
Johnny is the founder of the original Urge in Victoria in 1995, and as such, has been involved in professional tattooing for almost 30 years now.
He believes strongly in the open passing on of ideas and sharing of techniques and has helped many young apprentices start their own creative journies in tattooing.
Johnny served in the Canadian Army as an infantryman, with the PPCLI and the Canadian Airborne regiment, before starting his career as a tattoo artist and still maintains the values instilled in him by his time served. Once a Patricia, always a Patricia.
He attended a visual arts program at Camosun College after his release from the forces and still tries to squeeze in time for painting into his hectic tattooing schedule.
Johnny specializes in a bold graphic illustrative style of tattooing, heavily influenced by vintage book illustrators, and enjoys the challenges of cover-ups and blast-overs.
When not in the shop, Johnny can probably be found in an underwater cave in Mexico or tooling around some rover up here in Canada in a canoe or kayak.
